“Why’s the rainbow gay?”

 

Agnes looked up from her textbook and over at Elin, who was lying on Agnes’ bed, flipping through the pages of her history textbook.

“I don’t know. I’ve never looked it up.”

“You’ve been a lesbian longer than I have and you’ve never looked it up?”

“I guess I’ve never thought about it.”

 

Rolling onto her stomach, Elin tossed her textbook at her bag, missing it entirely. “You remember that ‘Pride’ thing that was on the news, right?”

“Europride?”

“Yeah. We should have one here.”

“In Åmål? Wouldn’t it just be me and you?”

“There’s no way we’re the only queers here.”

“Maybe.” Agnes smiled, putting down her pen and spinning her desk chair around. “Maybe by the time we have our licenses it’ll be back in Stockholm again.”

Elin sat up, eyes sparkling. “You’d go with me?!”

“I would.”

“You promise?”

“I promise.”

Elin jumped up with an excited yell, pressing her lips to Agnes’.

Even though Agnes didn’t like crowds or loud places, for Elin, she would be willing to make an exception.

 

Elin twirled her hair around her finger for a moment, before returning to her earlier question.

“Soo, about that flag…”

With a smile, Agnes turned on her computer.
